Far Out Color

Designed and animated a product launch video for Far Out, an adult coloring book featuring psychedelic, glow-in-the-dark artwork.

Outcome

The final video supported a successful product launch, helping communicate the uniqueness of the book in a way static imagery could not. The piece translated the tactile, analog experience of coloring into a cinematic digital format.

Challenge

Far Out is a space-inspired coloring book built around vibrant, psychedelic illustrations and glow-in-the-dark effects. The goal of the launch video was to translate the tactile, immersive experience of the book into motion, giving viewers a sense of flipping through its pages and bringing the artwork to life.

The challenge was to capture the magic of coloring like depth, glow, and transformation in a visually engaging, shareable format.

Role

I was responsible for:

  • Concepting the visual direction

  • Modeling and building all 3D assets

  • Animating the page interactions and coloring reveals

  • Rendering and look development

This was one of my first projects using Octane, marking an early exploration into physically based rendering workflows.

Approach

Rather than presenting static page spreads, I developed an animated desktop environment that allowed the book to feel tangible and interactive.

The core idea was to:

  • Simulate the coloring process through animated reveals

  • Highlight glow-in-the-dark qualities through lighting design

  • Create a natural page-flip rhythm to mimic real-world interaction

The goal was to bridge physical craft and digital motion.

Process

Using Cinema 4D and Octane, I:

  • Modeled the book and surrounding desk environment

  • Built lighting setups to emphasize glow and contrast

  • Animated page turns and artwork transitions

  • Developed reveal effects that simulated color being applied

Because the glow effect was central to the product identity, lighting and material refinement became key to achieving believable visual depth.

Reflection

This project marked an early shift toward physically based rendering workflows and reinforced the importance of lighting and materiality in product storytelling. It expanded my technical foundation while maintaining a strong focus on experiential design.
